Challenge 1 Interview: Dr. Bees

After securing victory for the Mafia with a grand total of 22 words, Zach (A.K.A. Dr. Bees) has been laying low in preparation for the next week of the season. Fortunately, he agreed to come by our studio to do an interview about his exciting victory with Matt and Cam.

Cam: Welcome, Zach, to the first interview of the season. How do you feel knowing that you are the first winner of a Skool of Salem challenge?

Zach: I am excite!

Matt: What made you go with the alias Dr. Bees?

Zach: I have a passion for bees. Plus, I have the freedom, or beedom, to use this alias.

Cam: Before the results came out, you were almost certain that you had lost the challenge. What caused you to feel this way?

Zach: The three word round scared us. After the other team took a decent amount of time to complete their part of the challenge, we figured we were finished.

Matt: Do you have any predictions for what the next challenge will be?

Zach: I can only hope for pineapples.

Matt: You barely beat Lew by 3 points this week. How do you feel about the Cops after experiencing them for the first time?

Zach: F**K the PO-LICE, man! The cops can't stop us. We're the Maf, we run this town!

Cam: Quite the surprising response there! Do you think that practicing with your team is what lead to your victory?

Zach: Yes, absolutely. After failing miserably in the mini-challenge, we figured we needed to work a lot harder if we wanted to stand any chance of winning.

Matt: That's great to hear. What do you think about your team?

Zach: I think that the Mafia works well together. Everyone was willing to practice more when we could contact each other.

Cam: Now that you have made sure your team was victorious, you gained the first idol of the season. Do you have any plans for its use yet?

Zach: I do have plans for it, but I can't tell the cops what they are, can I? :- )

Matt: Before I let you go, I have one last question: Do you have any advice for the other players?

Zach: WATCH OUT FOR THE MAF!

Matt: Thanks for coming by tonight for this interview, Zach. We'll be seeing you next week on...

Audience: ESSS!! OOHHH!! ESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

Challenge 2 post will be up on Monday, June 8, 2015.

Thanks for reading this interview, and who knows? Maybe it will be with you next time!

Elimination 1

There are no eyes here in this valley of dying stars...in this hollow valley...this broken jaw of our lost kingdoms.
Silence never sounded any sweeter ten minutes after the initial shot was fired. Thousands of dollars in bullets were sprayed and wasted among the two feuding sides, all over one briefcase.

The "shot heard 'round the world" was fired by Bumble Hough, an officer from the East Coast who had seen her fair share of gangbangers and scum throughout her long career in the force.

As her bullet left the chamber, a donut flew from the hands of Jacob.

"What the hell was that?"

"I don't know!" responded Pück, who was in the backseat of their police cruiser trying his best to get his spilled coffee off his uniform. "We better go out there and help her, though!"

Pück and Jacob kicked open the left side doors of the police vehicle in order to escape the constant bullets whizzing past their heads. Once secured behind cover, they pulled out their pistols and got to work firing at the "organized" thugs in the parking lot across the street.

Suddenly, the crackling of a radio transceiver seemed like the voice of God amidst the chaos. "Pück? Jacob?! Are you still there?!? We got backup on way, over!" It was Koska Ker, the "recently transferred from Russia" espionage expert at the police station. She was the one Jacob always had an eye on. Perhaps a little too much eye, but she didn't mind, he was better than the ones in the Old Country.

Bumble was running low on ammunition, and there weren't any reinforcements in sight, except for the two officers she left in the vehicle. All hope seemed to be lost...

...until Lewb, a master marksman, shot one of the drug buyers with a clean headshot from across the street. All hell broke loose as the Mafia rushed to grab their money. Pück and Jacob jumped from behind the police vehicle to seize the opportunity.

And the opportunity was seized. By a Mafia.

During Lewb's distracting shot, Bumble felt it was time to push forward and left her cover behind a wall. As this occurred, Dr. Bees took notice and fired off a single bullet, a bullet that would change the course of the city of Salem forever.

A bullet that killed a Cop, and began the war that destroyed one of the sides involved that day.

----

For the first Skool of Salem elimination challenge, Bumble and Swimy competed in a best-of-five Ghost game where they had an unlimited amount of time to give their answer. Tensions ran high as the two constantly outdid the other back to back. After an hour and a half of stressful wordplay, the eliminated player was decided.

Both contestants were tied going into the fourth round, meaning that the fifth round was the one that would decide it all. Who will be the one who takes the bullet that begins the end of the world?

With one press of the "L" button, Bumble completely devastated Swimy's odds of a response.

----

"SOMEBODY CALL AN AMBULANCE!"

It took only a minute for the Mafia to leave the scene with the briefcase of cash and for full police backup to get to the scene. Everything seemed to move in a blur, as if the world had gone off its axis. And for the hero who saved Bumble, it appeared their world had ceased to exist.

Lewb threw down his sniper rifle and ran across the street yelling, ignoring the Mafia who were clearly more interested in their wealth than the lives they ended. Pück gasped and immediately felt guilt for not taking the bullet himself. He pondered destiny...was Bumble meant to take the bullet, or was Jacob meant for death on this gruesome day? This is why he never really went to church.

Bumble held Jacob in her arms, bawling for someone to call an ambulance, but Jacob did not appear bothered at all. In fact, he seemed content with what he had just done.

Lewb grabbed Jacob's face and slapped it multiple times to keep him focused on reality. They never taught him how to handle a situation like this in police academy, so he went with his gut. Oh God...the bullet almost hit his gut. Lewb slapped himself to stay focused.

"Guys......," Jacob moaned, barely concentrating on anything. "Get...Get her..."

Bumble and Lewb exchanged blank glances as they struggled to figure out his cryptic message. However, Pück had the cure once he reached the group and immediately pulled out his radio transceiver. "Koksa? Koska?!?"

"Koksa is not here at the mo---" Koksa ran over to her desk that was currently occupied by an intern and grabbed the radio. "DA? WHAT HAPPEN? IS EVERYONE OK? I HEA---"

"Koksa...Jacob has something to say to you...he's not going to make it..."

Koksa went dead silent and awaited to hear the last words of the man she only thought of slightly, but in this moment encompassed her full attention. Like an artist, his message truly reached her because of his death.

"Koksa........I love you."

Immediately after uttering his final thoughts, Jacob spit out a pint of blood, and lost consciousness. An ambulance would not be able to save him...he was at peace.

"Those bastards..." Bumble mumbled under her breath. "We. Will. Find. Them."

The others let the words settle in, and silently nodded their heads. Jacob seemed to be in agreement, as if he were a part of a seance.

Thank you, Swimy, for being a part of Skool of Salem. I believe being eliminated first in a gameshow is the worst feeling second to being second place, but it had to be someone. You were a strong competitor in the challenge from the time you had, but your time has come.

I hope that you follow in the weeks to come by, as you are not truly eliminated when you are eliminated. More on that later. :- )

There will be an interview with Zach up tomorrow, and the Challenge 1 post will be posted on Monday at midnight. Until then, I hope you all have a great rest of the weekend and I'll see you soon. Thanks for helping us with making sure the first week went smoothly.

Challenge 1 Results

Skool of Salem has officially kicked off with a successful first challenge. Thanks to everyone for showing up even though we did have some minor time issues. I feel as though you guys are more interested in the results, however.

The Cops started off as the very first team to compete in Skool of Salem. It makes sense in context with the story, as the Cops are the ones who initiated the gunfight in the challenge post.

We went with the order of Bumble, Lew, Andre, Bailey, and Swimy for this group. Here is the summary of what went down:

Round 1: The original word was "metal". How hardcore! Metal is a great way to describe how solid the Cops did this round. In total, the team was able to come up with 24 words. Their streak came to an end after Bumble repeated the word "tongue".

Round 2: The original word was "phone". They could've called it from the beginning. This was a shaky round for the Cops, as Swimy failed to spell "red" without a typo 7 words in. He seemed to have trouble coming up with a response to Bailey's word "pain", as he took 8.81 seconds. Ouch!

Round 3: The original word was "teeth". Let's take a bite of what happened here...the round took a violent turn as words such as "bullet", "impact", and "gun" were thrown around. Fitting to the story, cool! After firing off 8 words, it seemed that they got too invested in the fight as Andre took 5.56 seconds to come up with the word "brawl". K-O! And not that one.

Round 4: The original word was "game", although I'll take this one seriously. Lew and Bailey felt like taking on crime today, as they used words such as "bank", "rob", and "bullet". 17 words were snatched up by these crime-fighters. Sadly, they fell to the power of little fluffy bunnies as Bailey went took 3.98 seconds to come up with the word "jackrabbit".

With Bailey gone, Lew ended up the highest-scorer of the Cops team with 19 points.

How do the Mafia compare? The Mafia struggled to get everyone together at the start, but eventually all contestants made it to the challenge on time. Let's hope this doesn't happen every week!

We used a lineup order of Penny, Shannon, Andy, Zach, and Damon for this group. Here is the summary of what went down:

Round 1: The original word was "metal". I guess the Cops and Mafia have something in common besides devastating corruption. The group almost made it to the fifteen word mark with 16 words, but fell short when Shannon went with the word "baby" to relate with "farm". E-I-E-I-O!

Round 2: The original word was "gold". Fitting, as this round was golden. Somehow, the contestants were able to associate a total of 42 words, which was the largest amount scored in any round the entire challenge. Penny even used the word "wigwam". However, all good things must come to an end, as Damon ended up taking 3.42 seconds to come up with the word "structure". It all came tumbling down.

Round 3: The original word was "human", and no, Wook wasn't here for the challenge. Her lack of faith in humanity could clearly be shown by the Mafia's three word round. If you have the longest round, why not also have the shortest one? Penny repeated the word "shamrock" after Zach already said it. It seems she really needed a three leaf clover!

Round 4: The original word was "table". The Mafia were really on their last legs with this one. Andy and Zach pondered the meaning of "life" as they viewed "nature" and the "sky". Sadly, they went a little too deep as Andy associated the word "bug" with "food" and was shortly eliminated for deviation. I hope that doesn't bug him too much, as after a 13 word round it appears...

With a total of 22 words total, Zach has secured immunity for the Mafia and has earned himself one idol, which he can choose to redeem after the challenge post next week, or save it for another time. Be cautious with your decision, Zach!

The Mafia were able to get an astounding 71 words associated while the Cops failed to keep up with their 57 words.

Due to their team losing, Bumble and Swimy will now need to face off in the first elimination challenge of the season: GHOST!

Bumble and Swimy will need to work together to figure out a day and time they would like to compete and let the hosts know.

Thanks to everyone involved, whether you were a contestant or a co-host, for making this an amazing challenge and ensuring that Skool of Salem was not a flop on week one. I hope this sets a precedent for the rest of the season.

I will be doing an interview with Zach this week, so check the site some point this weekend to see it. Until then, have a great night and I'll see you soon.

Challenge 1: TEAM ENDURANCE

So this is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.

They say the apocalypse began inside an empty parking lot. I'd say it began the second they were all born, these lemmings to the grave. Yet, time can be relative. All that's for certain is what was done with that time on that day.

Dr. Bees was always the first to arrive at every deal; he always told the others, "If you leave the bees out too long, you'll feel the sting." He drove up in his old Cadillac Convertible with a smug smile, as if he already had received his cut of the cash.

Once inside the parking lot, the doctor scouted the area. You can never be too careful, especially in these uncertain days where your closest ally can become your worst enemy if the police are willing to offer him enough. After finishing up his inspection, the roar of a police siren filled the air and with it came a booming voice that yelled, "GET DOWN! WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED!"

Dr. Bees dropped his weapon and raised his hands. He was only a kid, and now he was going to spend the rest of his days behind bars. The beekeeper was now the one being kept. Although, the strange thing was, the police officers did not look like average cops. They almost look like...

"You shoulda seen the look on your face!"

Matthias Talifield always dreamed of pulling a prank like this. He was known around the group as the one with the "schemes that went to extremes". Matthias walked over to him There was a peculiar smell after he did this, but he was not one to question.

Behind them walked Penny and Shanerys in tandem, laughing about the shenanigans the others were up to. On missions like this, they always let the guys go in first so they could clean the scraps or leave the scene entirely if necessary. Today seemed like it would be the same old same old, so they let their guard down.

No one was sure where Damon was, but it lost importance once the buyers showed up. Two greasy-looking fellows pulled up in an unmarked vehicle about a minute after the prank on the doctor. The taller one stepped out of the car and seemed to be the one in charge of the exchange of cash.

"Show me your part of the deal."

The entire parking lot went dead silent as Dr. Bees pulled out the briefcase full of the good stuff and opened it for display. The buyer inspected it for a second, but then quickly looked up to the right. A loud banging came from one of the roofs. Suddenly, Damon was seen sprinting across the roof with fear in his eyes.

"THEY FOUND US!"

Everyone in the parking lot shuffled around until they found cover. Damon jumped from the roof, landed on a dumpster, and then rolled behind one of the cars. "Which one of you idiots was messing with a police siren? Someone alerted the SKOOL!"

Dr. Bees and Matthias exchanged glances, and then acted like they had no one what was going on.

"Let's get ready, everyone! We're in for a showdown."

----

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the first Skool of Salem challenge post. This week, we have a timed competition that will require quick reactions and teamwork. We have decided to call this challenge "Team Endurance".

HOW IT WORKS:
Cops and Mafia will be separated from each other and will play this challenge with only their teammates (a Cop can only play a Mafia if the top players of each team tie). Starting with one player in a lineup, the first player will be given one word, such as "water" or "color". Each player will need to go down the lineup saying words associated with the previous word said.

Each contestant has 4 seconds to think of a word. If a contestant does not successfully think of a word, they will be removed from the challenge. You can also be removed if you deviate from the previous word said. When a player is removed, the team's streak will end and a brand new word will be given to the next player in the lineup. If a word is deemed to be deviating from the previous word by the hosts, that decision will be final.

Other situations where your word will be considered invalid are: opposites, proper nouns, onomatopoeia, and multiple words. If you make a typo, it will only be accepted if it is legible.

HOW TO WIN:
If a word is matched 15 times by a team, the timer goes down to two seconds per player.

The player that matches the most amount of words during the challenge will be announced the winner and their team will gain immunity. What does the winner get for their victory?

This week's idol: BRIEFCASE

Idols will be awarded to the highest scoring or best performing player of every challenge of the season. Only one idol can be redeemed a week, and their effects will be available the week after they are used. Therefore, if a player is eliminated the week they redeem an idol, the idol will be useless.

A reward from an idol might include immunity, or it might just be a dank meme. You never know what you're gonna get, but its effects might save your team.

IN THE EVENT OF A TIE:
If there is a tie, the top scoring players will have to do a mini-round of the challenge where they will only get 2 seconds to think of a word to associate with the original word. The first player to fail to associate will be second place.

BOTTOM 2:
The players with the least amount of words associated on the losing team will become the Bottom 2 and will be forced to compete in a mini-challenge that will be different from Team Endurance.

TIME:
Due to the inability for Andre to be at the challenge at 3 PST, we have moved the challenge time to 2 PST on Friday, June 5th, 2015.

Please let us know if you are unable to be here at that time, or if you are available that day.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and I hope to see you there on game day.
