Challenge 8: THE FINALE

Welcome back, everyone, to another week of Skool of Salem. This week is quite the unique one, as it just so happens we have reached the finale!

You may be wondering, "Finale? Aren't there three people left?"

We have decided to deviate from the norm this gameshow due to upcoming schedule issues as the month of August approaches. As a result, the finale will consist of the Final 3 contestants:

The finale of Skool of Salem will consist of multiple factors which earn contestants points. After all of the factors have been completed, the total points will be added up and a final victor will be decided. We will be holding the point values of each factor confidential until after the winner is revealed over the weekend!

Now, let's go over each factor individually. I have put due dates for the different factors next to ones that require one.

Jury Vote (due Thursday, July 30)
Cam and I will be asking all previously eliminated SOS contestants (except for Zach) who they believe should be the winner of the season. Votes will be kept anonymous, so do not feel pressured to vote a certain way due to guilt.

Past Challenges (due Friday, July 31)
There will be two past challenges that the contestants will need to complete. These challenges will be Seance and Shootouts. Both will follow the same rules as in their original posts.

Codebreak Challenge (due Friday, July 31)
All contestants will be given a key of how symbols correspond to certain letters. A host will then give the contestants a code that needs to be deciphered as fast as possible. Incorrect codes will result in a time penalty of 5 seconds.

Player Comment (due Thursday, July 30)
To add some variety to how a contestant could earn points, all three contestants will need to write a brief, yet convincing comment on this post arguing why they feel they should be the winner of Skool of Salem. Cam and I will then discuss who we feel has the best argument and distribute points.

Observation Challenge (due Friday, July 31)
This challenge was actually planned to be used but was not used... until now. All players will be shown the same video and then, after viewing, will need to answer questions under a small amount of time. The victor will be the player with the most questions answered correctly. If there is a tie, it will be based off total average time.

Amount of Wins
The total amount of wins per contestant will be accounted for and will earn them points toward their final score. Note that this is not based off idols, but rather just wins, so Penny's victory last week does count.

Idol Rewards
Lewis redeemed an idol on Friday. As a result, he has gained one point towards his victory. This is the same reward Zach received last week.

----

Since people will have different scheduling issues, we are leaving all participants of this finale the responsibility of completing their parts on time. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Good luck to all contestants. Every one of you deserve where you've gotten.

-Matt

Hiiieeeeeeeee. It's Andre. Personally I think that I should win SOS because I've fought hard under the toughest circumstances out of anyone in the game. No, I haven't won a challenge (though I did miss one due to being in the ER). However, I have made sacrifices in that I altered my work availability to suit the schedule the game called for. Also, I've been through everything from playing a partner challenge on my own to fulfilling my responsibility to complete a challenge while I was held up in the hospital. I think my work speaks for itself here. Many thanks and I hope you feel the same as I do.

So, here we are again. It feels so surreal to be at this point in a gameshow again. I have to admit, this was definitely the hardest season that I have competed in thus far. At times, I wondered what I was doing in this gameshow because I felt like I didn’t quite belong. I know I had been (mostly) away from chat for a while, so I wasn’t sure how people still felt about me. It felt like things had changed. And then I realized that they did change, but it was for the best. We’ve all grown and changed as people over the years, but I think the one thing that hasn’t changed is the strong bond that we will alway share. I still feel like part of the family, and that’s something I’m truly grateful for. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to showcase my gangsta gameshow skills (very humble, I know) once again. However, this season didn’t go as expected for me. I always used to be one of the queens of challenges in previous gameshows, so it was hard for me to accept that things weren’t going as they had before. The challenges this season tested me, like when the Mafia lost team challenges after the first challenge, or when I was in the bottom. It challenged what I thought I was capable of, but in the end, I think I came out stronger than ever before. Once I realized what I needed to do, I put everything into Skool of Salem that I had, and I think it showed.

I feel that I deserve to be the winner of Skool of Salem for many reasons. In the entire season, Andre never won a challenge/idol. I think that the winner of Skool of Salem has to be strong enough to win a challenge on their own. Andre has not demonstrated his capabilities in this gameshow as a serious contender that dominates in challenges. Lew and I are both tied for the number of wins that we have. I think this shows that I am dedicated to this gameshow and putting all of my effort into it. In the Lingo challenge, I did everything within my power to make sure that I pulled off a win, and obviously my effort paid off when I won. I put hours of practice into challenges to increase my odds of emerging in victory. For the drawing challenge, Bumble and I practiced every single night for multiple hours, creating phrases, drawing pictures, and guessing (love your spider sweater, Bumble, by the way). Even when Zach wasn’t available every night, we still wanted to practice because we knew it would help our team. (Shoutout to Wook for being a gangsta and filling in for Zach when he wasn’t available to practice.) I think that is the kind of dedication that deserves to be rewarded. Winning isn’t always necessarily about skill, but also about how much you want something and how hard you’re willing to work to achieve it. For every single challenge, I have worked my butt off practicing and strategizing, even if it didn’t appear obvious. When the Seance challenge was first done, it took me 31 turns to reach the ghost. When Seance returned as a bottom 4 challenge, I took the experience that I had gained from the original challenge and learned from it. By using my mistakes to my advantage, I was able to shave down my number of turns almost in half to only 16 turns. When we did team challenges, the Mafia would always work together, no matter how many people were on, to practice as much as we could. I came up with strategies that I felt could help our team in challenges, such as in the first challenge, which we won. I was a team player who truly cared about everyone on my team, and I would’ve been willing to sacrifice my own safety in order to ensure theirs. It’s taking me a long time to write this comment, but that’s because I truly care about what I’m saying here. I put hours of dedication into this gameshow, and that is something that is worth recognition.

In addition, Lew has been in the bottom 2 (or bottom 4 in the 5th challenge) three times out of a possible seven. This shows that his efforts were often lackluster and he had to continually fight to just stay alive. A true contender should be at the top, not at the bottom almost 50% of the time. Andre was in the bottom 2 (or bottom 4 in the 5th challenge) two times, and I am tied with him for that. Being tied for the least bottom rankings shows how even if I didn’t always pull out a win, I was not a bad competitor. I held my own throughout the competition and when I did need to win to stay alive, I did. I haven’t been in the bottom since challenge 5, while Lew was in the bottom in challenge 6, and both Lew and Andre were in the bottom in challenge 7 (if Zach hadn’t left for camp). This shows that over the past few weeks, I have fought harder than ever before, including winning last week’s challenge. Lew and Andre, on the other hand, have struggled to stay alive at the end. In fact, if Zach hadn’t been eliminated due to having to go to camp, then either Lew or Andre wouldn’t even be in the finale, while I definitely would have been. I have valiantly fought my way to the end, while Andre and Lew have lost their momentum and strength when it is required the most.

Even though they were both due to personal reasons, Lew and Andre both missed a challenge. I have made it a priority to attend every challenge and make sure that it is completed in time. When I knew I had something going on that would prevent me from being on at the time of the challenge, I promptly notified Peng and Cam so that another arrangement could be worked out. When I went on vacation last week, I made sure that I had time to complete the challenge. I took time out of my vacation on Wednesday night, when I knew I could be available, to complete the Lingo challenge. Over the summer, there are many things I could do on a Friday night, but I knew what I needed to do. I put in hours and hours of practice throughout the week, woke up at 3:00am to read challenge posts, read all of the posts thoroughly instead of skimming through them, and planned accordingly to make sure I was able to demonstrate my abilities every week. I put Skool of Salem high on my list of priorities, which is a reason why I think I deserve to be the winner of Skool of Salem.

Throughout Skool of Salem, and every other gameshow that I have competed in, I have shown that I am a force to be reckoned with. I put my heart and soul into everything that I do. I think that my actions in Skool of Salem have solidified that. Even when I was losing, I never gave up. I fought to be where I am today, just as I have in every other gameshow. I want this more than anyone ever has, because I want to finally prove that I am indeed worthy of being crowned the winner of a CpSkool gameshow.

Also, I’m basically the queen of “the running joke that Penny Mickey, otherwise known as Penny, tends to get victory ripped out of her arms once she gets close to it,” as Peng put it in the challenge 7 results post. You don’t really want to do that to me again, do you? ;)

I want to say thank you to Peng, Cam, and all of the other contestants. Without all of you, I don’t know where I’d be. Peng and Cam, thank you so much for all of the effort that you’ve put into planning and executing Skool of Salem. I know there’s been some bumps in the road and none of this is easy, but I am truly grateful for your dedication to this gameshow and I hope you know how much I, and everyone else, appreciates it. To Andy, Shannon, Zach, and Damon - thank you for being some of the most incredible teammates I could’ve asked for. I know we got defeated more than we should have, but I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else on my team. I’d pick you guys in a Mafia fight any day. You are some of the strongest players and people that I know and I love you. To Bailey, Swimy, and Bumble - thank you for being such strong adversaries to battle against. I know we weren’t on the same side (except Bumble for like a week which was Gucci because we all know the Mafia is the place to be), but I had an amazing time fighting against you. You are all such strong players and people as well and it was my honor to play against you. To Andre and Lew - I wish you the best of luck in the finale. Regardless of the outcome, you both deserve to be in the finale and it is a privilege to fight against you. I have the utmost respect for both of you. You are great players and definitely some of the toughest competition I’ve ever faced. If one of you win, congratulations.

This isn’t me trying to suck up, but a genuine thank you to all of you. I have loved getting to reconnect with you guys this summer, and I hope we stay close friends for a very long time. I love you guys so so so so so much and no matter what happens, I know I’ll always look back at Skool of Salem, as well as all the other times I’ve spent with you guys over the years, with fond memories.

~Penny

P.S. Sorry this wasn’t very brief, but then again, have you ever actually read a brief comment from Penny?

P.P.S. I’m still dealing with Zayn leaving One Direction. Don’t make me cry again by thinking this was crap, yeah?

I think I should be the winner of SOS because I think I've put in the most effort and preparation for the challenges. Both Penny and Andre have definitely tried hard in every challenge and have both been so close to victory in past gameshows, and even though I’m not a fan favorite to win, I think that I’ve put in more time and energy in terms of preparation for challenges to deserve winning this gameshow. Some challenges in this competition had a nature that I couldn’t practice for, such as the three Séance challenges, Shootouts (which was originally really different from Battleship so I was unable to practice for it), Lingo, and the Observation challenge. But for the challenges that could be prepared for through practice, such as Haxball, Territory War, JigsawPlanet, and Pictionary, I practiced for hours upon hours straight almost every day up until the challenge so that I could do well and most importantly stay in this competition for as long as I can. The winner of SOS should be the person who has put in the most effort into this competition, the person who has tried their absolute hardest to do their best, and the person who performed well in the challenges, and, out of the Final 3, I believe that I fit these descriptions the best.
